Are You Still At …

Over the last many weeks I have been fortunate to reconnect with several colleagues and friends.

Conversations always seem to go the same: how are you, how is the family, are you still at ….

It has given me pause, this question of are you still at…?  While I am sure it’s just another pleasantry being exchanged, to me the questions is much deeper.  I read into a sub-text that maybe I shouldn’t.   When I reflect on the question – and all the conversations that often follow, I come to discover that many people are in work/career situations that they find to be unsatisfying.

You see, I am wildly passionate about the work I do and the people I get to do it with.  More than that – I have a chosen mindset that says no matter where you are and what you are doing, you should always be pursuing your purpose and working with people you enjoy being around.

Now, will you love every task of your work all the time, probably not.  Everything in life has its ups and downs.  I can honestly say that when I look back on my career, I have no regrets about where I have been.  I feel blessed to have known and worked with each person along my journey.  I became better for each experience, and could not do what I do today without the learning along the way.  What felt like a bump or bruise in the moment are today proud chapters in a great novel that will only be complete when I take my last breath.

So, I ask you.  What is your passion and purpose?  Are you doing what you love and working with people who inspire you and push you to be better each day than the day before?  And, do you bring that out in the people around you as well?  To me, life is about living each day with intent, and taking what you experience forward into tomorrow.  Learning from yesterday is a gift. Regretting it will just keep you stuck there.
